Final exam
A lot of people suffer from test anxiety, which affects their ability to perform well on exams -- even if they know the information they're being tested on inside and out. Your best defense against falling victim to test anxiety is to be prepared. The more prepared you are, the less anxiety you will feel.
The most important thing to remember is that you cannot wait until the last minute to prepare, because by then it will be too late and your opportunities will have already been lost. To avoid this from happening to you, here is my advice regarding your final exams:
- Always keep your final exam in mind, even from day one of the semester. Print as you go the things you may need at final (answers or summaries the professor may post, your responses to main topics, etc.).
- Look for final exam study guides as you get nearer to the end of the semester. Use these guides to study in-depth! Write up a document with the study guide items and the answers and use this to study for your finals. Bring it with you to your exam, for a quick review prior to the exam itself.
- Schedule your exams as soon as registration opens (usually the day the classrooms open) for as late as possible in the semester, making sure to leave enough time between them for quick review for the next exam. Try not to schedule your exams back-to-back. Space them out as much as possible, even if it means taking a day off work so you can take the exam(s) during the week instead of the weekend. Spacing them out is worth it even if it means you have to drive to another facility (in case the one closest to you doesn't offer enough exam times to fit them all in at the same place).
- Go as early as possible to the testing center for a seat you'll be completely comfortable in. I always went to a front row corner seat.
- Bring self-addressed stamped envelopes to turn in with your final exam, if you'd like it returned to you after grading. The proctor will take care of submitting it along with your exam to your professor.
