Daily plan

As they say, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. To succeed at the University of Maryland University College -- especially if you're attempting an accelerated course load -- you will need to be 100% disciplined and organized.

When you're participating in a distance-education or online college course, you are in charge of your own success or failure. There is no instructor to "crack the whip" or a physical class or lecture to force you to keep up with your work. The only person you have to rely on is yourself. This is why it irks me when I hear people say an online college is not a "real" college, since in my opinion a "real" college provides the discipline for you -- making what an adult student can achieve in an online environment much more of an accomplishment, in my opinion.

Here are my tips for preparing a daily plan for your weekly class work:

  • Work on one class per day (same day every week). Follow your schedule.
  • DO NOT LET YOURSELF FALL BEHIND.
  • Choose a quiet place that is well-organized to do your work.
  • Do your homework either early in the day, or very late in the day – when the kids are asleep and the phone won't be ringing.
